TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Announces 2020 Driver Line-Up
On Friday, February 7, 2020, Toyota announced its Super Formula driver line-up on its official website. There will be 6 teams and 11 drivers, but one very important driver, 2019 Super Formula Champion Nick Cassidy’s name was not on that list. At least not yet, which many fans certainly hope changes.
After being such a huge part of both Formula Nippon and Super Formula, as well as other categories, Team LeMans’ long history in racing in Japan comes to a close. The chapter on another Toyota powered team begins, however. That team is ROOKIE Racing and will feature one of Team LeMans’ former drivers, Kazuya Oshima. In addition, carrozzeria Team KCMG will gain another car, which will be driven by former Super Formula Champion Yuji Kunimoto. Replacing Kunimoto at KONDO RACING will be 2019 Japanese F3 Champ Sacha Fenestraz.
There will a total of 21 drivers in Super Formula representing 12 teams in 2020. Fans will be able to get a first look at their favorite drivers during the two-day fan event schedule for March 7-8 at Suzuka, followed by 2 days of Super Formula testing.
